| A paper describing a two-year research project with the children and families of the Oklahoma Seminole Nation Head Start, developed to teach mathematics and called "Natural Math" to convey a belief that mathematics is developmental and experiential; and a dedication to the "natural" world as the best learning environment, understanding the importance of nature in the cultural life of Native Americans. Investigators wrote their own books and stories built around the NCTM standards and combined with the Developmentally Appropriate Practices recommended by Bredekamp and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (1987). From The Journal of Educational Issues of Language Minority Students, V.16, Summer 1996, Boise State University. | |
