Materials used in a university course for prospective elementary school teachers, to teach them how to be interested in mathematics. Materials are in PDF and DVI, and include: representing numbers in other bases, divisibility tests, periodic decimal expansions, irrational numbers and square roots, basic principles of algebra, Russian Peasant multiplication, Horner's Method or synthetic division, simple linear Diophantine equations, Newton's method for computing square roots, proof that square roots of most integers are irrational, and how to convert a repeating decimal to a fraction.
