| An international organization dedicated to the support and development of the applications, computational methods, and theory of mathematical programming in its widest sense. The society holds the triennial International Symposium on Mathematical Programming and sponsors many meetings throughout the world. It has also instituted a program of prizes for outstanding advances in the field. In a mathematical programming or optimization problem, we seek to minimize or maximize a real function of real or integer variables, subject to constraints on the variables. The term Mathematical Programming refers to the study of these problems: their mathematical properties, the development and implementation of algorithms to solve these problems, and the application of these algorithms to real world problems. See The Journal: Mathematical Programming, which consists of Series A and Series B. | |
