| The astronomical surveys of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) have "obtained deep, multi-color images covering more than a quarter of the sky and created 3-dimensional maps containing more than 930,000 galaxies and more than 120,000 quasars." SDSS's education and outreach tools include the lessons, activities and games of SkyServer, appropriate for kids of all ages; World Wind, open source software that lets you zoom through the sky using the SDSS data set; COSMUS, which produces visualizations that explain scientific concepts and data; and Galaxy Zoo, which allows anyone to classify SDSS observations of galaxies. | |
