|Research, teaching, publications and more by Strogatz, Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Applied Mathematics at Cornell University. Best known in the academia for his 1998 Nature paper on "small-world" networks, which he co-authored with his former student Duncan Watts, Strogatz researches nonlinear dynamics and complex systems, often on topics inspired by the curiosities of everyday life. He also strives to popularize mathematics, writing columns for The New York Times, making frequent guest appearances on the show RadioLab, and authoring The Calculus of Friendship, SYNC, and The Joy of x.
