| A national center of professional development for K-8 mathematics education where "context, representation, and discourse are critical to learning." See, in particular, the summer institutes, workshops, and other professional development opportunities offered by Mathematics in the City (MitC); and MitC publications such as Contexts for Learning Mathematics, Young Mathematicans at Work, and Models of Intervention: Reweaving the Tapestry. Established in 1995 by Professor Cathy Fosnot as a collaboration between the City College of New York and the Freudenthal Institute, University of Utrecht (the Netherlands), MitC has received funding by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Exxon-Mobil Foundation, and the Department of Education of New York City. | |
