Description: Article about how students worked on the Problem of the Week (PoW) "Wooden Legs" in a way that developed the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Mathematical Practice of "making sense of problems and persevering in solving them." This article, originally published in the March, 2012, issue of the CMC ComMuniCator, the journal of the California Mathematics Council, intersperses teaching tips throughout its four sections: "What does it mean to have our students 'make sense of problems...?' and "How does it look?" and "How does it sound?" and "What does '... persevere in solving them' mean?"
