This article, originally published in the March, 2012, issue of the CMC ComMuniCator, the journal of the California Mathematics Council, intersperses teaching tips throughout its four sections: "What does it mean to have our students 'make sense of problems...?' and "How does it look?" and "How does it sound?" and "What does '... persevere in solving them' mean?"
