|This monthly column, sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), originally aimed "to publicize and expand upon the CUPM Curriculum Guide 2004 and its two companions: the Curriculum Foundations Project, and the CUPM Illustrative Resources." Essays, which include a series entitled "Meeting the Challenge of High School Calculus," dates back to February, 2005. As of August, 2011, author Bressoud — the DeWitt Wallace Professor of Mathematics at Macalester College and a former president of the MAA — continued this column as a blog, with posts such as "The Best Way to Learn," "Teaching and Learning for Transference," "Trends in Race/Ethnicity and Gender Representation in the Mathematical Sciences," "Age Is Not the Problem," and several MAA Calculus Studies, such as "Progressive Teaching" and "Persistence through Calculus."|
