|Improving the opportunity to learn for all Americans, and accelerating innovation in education, through technology and research. Initiatives include Digital Promise Schools, in partnership with Verizon; the League of Innovative Schools; educator micro-credentials, several in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or STEM (Eliciting Thinking with Open-Ended Content Questions, Outdoor Classroom Management, and Community Mapping); Marketplace, improving the purchasing of educational technology; and the Beacon Project and other adult learning programs. Congress originally authorized Digital Promise in 2008 as the independent, bipartisan nonprofit National Center for Research in Advanced Information and Digital Technologies through Section 802 of the Higher Education Opportunity Act.|
