|Author of The Universe in Zero Words and The Big Splat, or How Our Moon Came to Be, freelance mathematics and science writer Dana Mackenzie also contributes to the series What's Happening in the Mathematical Sciences published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS); and writes columns for American Scientist, Discover, Smithsonian, Science, and New Scientist. After earning his doctorate from Princeton University and teaching math at Duke University and Kenyon College, Mackenzie learned about journalism the University of California at Santa Cruz's Science Communication Program. Certified by the United States Chess Federation (USCF) as a Life Master, he also lectures on the board game and runs a youth chess club.|
