This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

This session will offer hands-on workshop experiences focused on alternative forms of classroom assessment, including the use of open-ended question. The activities offered during the workshop have been developed by the Assessment Communities of Teachers (ACT) project, funded by the NSF, that supports assessment-related professional development in six urban sites across the nation.Deborah A.
