NCTM San Diego
Presentation Summary

This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

Through a variety of authentic activities, participants will experience first-hand alternative assessment techniques which can be used in secondary mathematics class. Participants will experience a performance assessment by creating a mathematical product using some "non-traditional" manipulatives. Participants will score a mathematical problem solving "skit" using a rubric suitable for classroom use. Elements of a mathematical portfolio will be reviewed, with participants constructing a mini assessment portfolio from their work during the session.William M.
