Recommended fractal web sites:

Note: at least 3/4 of the time, a "fractal" page will not include much mathematics. Remember that there is useful mathematics behind fractals, even if they start to look like just pretty pictures.

People who are interested in teaching an undergraduate fractals/chaos course:

First, Benjamin (Pete) Wells of the University of San Francisco at: wells@lynx.cs.usfca.edu has email addresses for the following 9 people:

  1. David Peak and Michael Frame (wrote a good textbook that they have used for 3 years).
  2. Richard Voss (picked up Frame's course at Yale).
  3. Harry Smith (is heading a team of five in a fractals course).
  4. Cary Laxer (is interested in team teaching at the Rose-Hulman Institute, Indiana).
  5. Valerie Miller at Georgia State.
  6. Ken Musgrave at George Washington University.
  7. John Hart at Washington State University.
  8. Jeff McConnell at Canisius (has developed fractal curriculum with Pete Wells).
  9. Heinz-Otto Peitgen and others at Florida Atlantic Univ. probably have some experience.

Secondly, Mark Harbison of Sacramento City College (CA) at: mhfractal@aol.com can provide email adresses for the following folks:

  1. Bob Devaney at Boston University
  2. Glen Richgels at Bemidji State University (Minnesota)
  3. Marc Dancer at Deerfield Academy (Massachusets)
