- place a third mirror on the open end of each of the angles that have pattern block designs in them - what do you see?
- the third mirror creates infinite repetition in the plane - a tessellation; while two mirrors generate a circular design the third is required to create an infinite design
- Student Activity: Kaleidoscope/Tessellation Investigation - has students predicting what the tessellation will look like given a triangular pattern and predicting the type of triangle that will generate regular tessellations
- try to find a triangle (three-mirror kaleidoscope) that will generate the given tessellations (pages taken from Tessellation Teaching Masters were provided at the session, see bibliography)
