Native American Quilts, Repeating Decimals, Chinese Calendar - Connections

The connections between mathematics and quilting will be the focus of my proposed workshop, with special emphasis on Native American quilts and Amish designs. Connections within mathematics relating modular arithmetic and transformational geometry will be utilized to analyze quilts and to design new ones. Concepts relating cyclical applications in other fields will also be applied to the basic design process. What do the Chinese calendar, repeating decimals, seasons, and moon phases have in common? How do these topics relate to quilt design?
