NCTM San Diego
Presentation Summary

This is the summary of a presentation given at the 74th Annual NCTM Meeting, 25-28 April 1996, San Diego, CA.

Drawing from our experiences as teacher educators, we will share ways in which we have used the graphics calculator with pre- and inservice teachers as a tool for fostering mathematical discourse. To do so, we will engage participants in mathematical modeling tasks that rely on graphics calculator. We will also discuss our successes and failures in developing teachers' abilities to use the calculator as a bridge to higher order thinking. As one of the presenters is from Mexico, knowing how similar problems are approached in other countries may inform our practice.Go on to notes and slides from the presentation.
