## Who I am

My name is Anna Phillips, and I'm an 09 graduate from Swarthmore. I majored in physics and minored in math and educational studies. During the spring of 2010, I returned to Swarthmore to complete my student teaching and I currently teach high school Physics in North Carolina.

My primary role in the Math Images Project is as a researcher. Along with Abram Lipman, I'm working with Ann Reninger on several research projects. My primary project is studying how the experience of participants in the Math Images project and their writing. Another project I am working on is developing was of assessing open ended writing assignments, such as Math Images pages. The final project I'm involved in is providing back up support to Abram as he studies how people read and interact with Math Images pages.

I am the author of several pages and the editor of many others.

I currently provide feedback on pages that are close to being completed.

## My skills and relevant academic background

### Skills I have that might come in handy

**Tex** To put equations onto these pages, you need to type them in in Tex. (ie to get something looking like you must type <math> \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} \frac{1}{x} </math> . I can help you type pretty much anything you'd want in Tex. It's pretty straight forward, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

**Mathematica** I'm pretty good at using Mathematica to create graphics and simple programs in case you want to create some of your own images. Feel free to ask me questions about using it or to see some programs I've created. Some programs you can download here.

**Math and Physics know-how** If you want some help with math concepts from someone other than a professor and are maybe curious about connections to physics, I'm here. I'll be particularly helpful with math concepts related to calculus (regular and multivariable), linear algebra, discrete math, statistics, geometry, and various topics that I say fall under the umbrella of dynamics (chaotic systems, self organized systems, and fractals). I've taken classes in all of those, often approaching them from two different angles (ie quantum mechanics is mostly linear algebra, I've taken Stat 61 and Statistical Mechanics, Dynamical Systems as a topics in analysis course and the physics class on chaos, etc).
