Rollover Images
- Kate 19:44, 11 July 2011 (UTC): Hi Michelle, I know I was all excited about this, but now I realize that this doesn't work in all browsers - it's working in Firefox but nothing happens in Safari and it was just black when I tried opening it in Chrome. Do you know if there's any other way to get a rollover? I feel like maybe the best way to go is to create a rollover template for the wiki, but that's definitely beyond my abilities.
- Michelle 15:48, 11 July 2011 (UTC): We're still working on getting Flash over here at Drexel, but it should be simple enough for me to create rollover applications for you once I have access to it. Hopefully, those will work? Give me a moment to look into a possible fix for the Java applet though.
- I got it working on Chrome and Safari by updating the Java version -- though, from what I understand Macs and Java updates don't have a record of being on the same level all the time. Alternatively, you can go back and try to change the Java source/binary format used on the applet by right clicking the project in Netbeans/etc... and changing it to an older version before compiling the class file? Hopefully that will work. The default might be JDK 5 or 6, try the oldest possible version? If that still does not work, I'll create the necessary rollovers in Flash once I can.
- Kate 20:43, 13 July 2011 (UTC): To be completely honest, most of what you said about trying to make the Java program work went completely over my head! I have no idea what Netbeans is, or how to go about changing it to an older version of Java. My only programming experience was an intro cs class where we wrote really simple Python programs in Emacs, so I'm pretty much a n00b. :)
- The page where I need rollovers is Perko pair knots, under the full proof (where there's about a million images). Every time there's two images in the same cell of the table, the one at the top is the one that I want to be the default, and the one on the bottom (with the pink and green) is the one that I want to show up on the mouseover.
- I really don't want to just throw this all at you and ask you to do all of it, as there's almost 40 of them, but the thing is, I'm at the point in my summer where I really need to get everything finished up, and I just don't know if I have the time to be trying to make this work. If you could just figure out what would work best and then just give me some step by step directions for how to do it, that'd be great.
- I'll get another applet running tomorrow morning with an older Java binary for you to check if it works. If that doesn't work, I really wouldn't mind trying to make the rollovers for you in Flash once I get a working program to compile actionscript for the images (which should be within the week). After all, I'm here to help with the apps and such, so don't worry about that. Hopefully, I can get that to work or, if I can figure out how to gain access to upload html files on the wiki, just make the javascript rollovers and then add them with the htmlLet extension once I figure that out.

- Kate 14:26, 14 July 2011 (UTC): That sounds really good, thank you! Also, feel free to email me if you wanna contact me more directly - I'm sure my address is floating around somewhere, but if not, it's kderosi1 at swarthmore.
- New file uploaded above -- Is it working any better? I'll continue to work on the alternatives if we still have no luck.

- Well, here's one more try. This time with JRE 1.1 -- up above again.
