(02/05/96) *************************************** MathMagic Cycle 20: Level 10-12 Regular *************************************** Pascal's Triangle is an expansion that has many 1 mathematical applications. 1 1 1 2 1 Work with your team and your NTP to "present" three 1 3 3 1 of them. Your research and exchanges should lead you 1 4 6 4 1 to discover at least one use that may be labeled 1 5 10 10 5 1 bizarre (or at least "really weird") **************************************** MathMagic Cycle 20: Level 10-12 Advanced **************************************** Your parents are going to knock out the bottom of the entire length of the south wall of their house, and turn it into a greenhouse by replacing some bottom portion of the wall by a huge sloped piece of glass(which is expensive). They have already decided that they are going to spend a certain fixed amount. The triangular ends of the greenhouse will be made of various materials they already have lying around. The floor space in the greenhouse is only considered usable if they can both stand up in it, so part of it will be unusable, but they don't know how much. Of course this depends on how they configure their greenhouse. They want to choose the dimensions of the greenhouse to get the most usable floor space in it at the best cost, but they are at a real loss to know what the dimensions should be and how much usable space they will get. Can you and your NTP help? (Contributed by Robin L. Novelli) ============================ Good luck MrH
