(12/4/95) ************************************* MathMagic Cycle 19: Level K-3 Regular ************************************* Tim and Maria were both very good at checkers, but every time they played using the same checkerboard and the same sides, Maria argued that the number of squares on a board with a black corner in the upper right hand corner was more than the number of squares with a white upper right hand corner, regardless of the size of the square (in fact, they both thought they counted them all.) Tim, of course would argue the opposite. If the only rule they had was to set the folding line of the board halfway between them, can you tell who was right? How many squares were counted? Does how the squares were counted make a difference? ************************************** MathMagic Cycle 19: Level K-3 Advanced ************************************** Concert Stash The North Pole elves were hoping Mr.and Mrs.Claus would relax as much as possible before the Christmas Season, so they convinced them to go to a concert that cost $25 each. It was their treat. The Elves all had col- lected a few $10, $5,$1, half dollars and quarters from their own stashes, but first had to figure out in how many different ways they could come up with the money for the concert, since each one wanted to give some of their money. It took them a while, but I bet MathMagicians could come up with all choices really fast... Well, can you? ============================= Good luck, and happy holidays MrH
