Registration/Participation: Details

Must registered users participate in all the challenges?

Since school calendars and holidays differ the world over, registered participants are not expected to address all challenges. A schedule has been developed, and registered users among themselves (and/or with their subscribed-only partners) can participate in all postings within a year before having to register again.

What donation is expected for full registration?

Information about the nominal registration fee is forwarded to each person registering for one of the lists. Please note that the registration form calls for the name of a faculty sponsor, and a team name. Each team's name will consist of the sponsor's last name (surname), a color, the school/ group mascot, and city/state/country information: Hodson's Gold Bears/El Paso, TX can end up working with Nahim's Blue Tigers/Tel Aviv, IL.

What other "perks" are there for registering?

All registered teams will receive a certificate of participation, and a handsome "MathMagic Internet Participant" decal. In general, registered users have more privileges than non registered users. Presently (and certainly not mandatory,) scanned images of the registered sites are being made available in MathMagic's WWW homepage (http://mathforum.org/mathmagic/) so any net user with a Graphic Web Browser (such as Netscape,IE or Mosaic) can look at the teams and the schools. Password-protected access to an area where each school can post their home page (or a link to it) will be available. For low-tech sites, color pictures are sent to MrH and he scans them and places them on the WWW, so no prior knowledge of "Net Surfing" is required. Undoubtedly the greatest incentive is the world-wide posting that the student's responses receive. As mentioned earlier, beginning with the 1997-98 cycle, REGISTERED teams have also been able to choose NTP's from the "unsubscribed" lists.
