Activity: Real-World Math with the CBL 2 and LabPro
Go to: http://education.ti.com/.../activitybook_math_realworld.html (opens a new window)
Description: This workbook provides students with an interesting way to explore math and science concepts. It is a revision of the earlier Texas Instruments publication Real-World Math with the CBL 2 System: Activities for the TI-83 and TI-83 Plus. The activities are written to use Texas Instruments graphing calculators in conjunction with the Texas Instruments CBL 2™ and the Vernier LabPro® data collection devices. The device is used to collect data from a variety of sensors, such as motion, force, sound, light, and temperature. The data collection software called DATAMATE is run on the calculator. This versatile, easy-to-use program sets up the data collection and then retrieves the data from the data collection device. Powerful analysis features built into the graphing calculator help students build mathematical models. The activity book is available for purchase or each of the thirty-one activities can be downloaded free in PDF format.

Comment:Most of the activities are interesting. Some of them are not. I've noticed a number of errors in diagrams and descriptions. It also seems that the student handouts could be made more accessible if they were simplified and clarified.
