Teacher Review (Based on classroom experience)Reviewer: Craig, Jun 11 2005 8:54PM |
Classroom use in Courses and Topics: Geometry: Transformations and symmetry |
Duration of classroom use: One Week |
What did students learn? Students explored "wallpaper" (2-D) symmetry patterns. |
What did students do with the resource? Some created tessellation patterns with the software; others used the tool to check symmetry patterns in tessellations or wallpapers they had designed by hand. Some students explored the frieze pattern and rosette pattern capabilities of the software. |
How hard was it for students to use? Easy |
Other classroom comments: Students really enjoyed exploring symmetry patterns! |
Appropriate for: introduction to a concept, practice of skills and understandings, applications of a concept or technique, advanced investigations |
Other Comments: With my Geometry students, they had already been introduced to the symmetry pattern concept before using Kali, but I could see using Kali to introduce the concept. |
What math does one need to know to use the resource? None to use the tool. With Geometry students, we had studied transformations in the plane, and having that language available helped them make good use of the tool. |
What hardware expertise does one need to learn to use the resource? None. |
What extra things must be done to make it work? Nothing. Download was very easy. |
How hard was it for you to learn? Easy |
Explanation: The only difficulty we experienced was learning to right-click the mouse to turn off the drawing pen. |
Ability to meet my goals: Effective |
Recommended for: Geometry: Transformations and symmetry |
Tool: Kali Review
