The manipulative asks for a correct number sentence. When all the numbers are
added commutativity is perserved. When the equation involves subtraction the
order the students presented on the number line isn't the key, a correct number
equation is.
It's nice to see that this manipulative isn't so stringent such that what a
student types in the number line phase must be duplicated in the equation phase.
I like the flexibility allowing students to discover multiple legitimate
solutions to a single problem.
I also appreciate the authors including the negative portion of the number line.
This is userfriendly applet with great benefits.
