I'm sorry, but I see no reference to which applet you are referring?
f(1) is not a "point" anywhere.
[1,f(1)] is certainly a point in the plane. Even if it *was* on the yaxis,
which it is not, that does not exclude it from being in the plane.
To be on the yaxis, the first, independent variable has a value of 0, not
1.
What's the problem please?
