students entrenched in the idea of using a calculator. Make them memorize their
basic math facts.
I constantly struggle with Algebra and Geometry students who literally cannot
divide 30 in half without a calculator. This deficit keeps students from being
able to think about Algebra; they must spend too much energy on the arithmetic
and then have nothing left for the topic at hand.
Just a thought.
