You might try using a wire coathanger covered with nylon stocking.  Grab the
center of the long side with one hand and hold the hook end with yur other hand
and then pull.  You should be able to stretch the coathanger into a rhombus
shape.  the slip a nylon stocking ovet the rhombus.  You rtudents can then bend
the sides to make saddles or other curves.
