I also have them search for a mathematician from their own ethnicity and/or
gender.  Otherwise, I tend to always get just the guys from the same club.  The
Dark Ages were only the Dark Ages in Europe and not in the rest of the world.
Right triangle mathematics was developed in the west and in the east at
different times and in different ways.  I want them to see that there were great
mathematical contributions from all cultures and genders.
