| Subject: | RE: Traffic Jam: articulating rules |

1. Could you develop a set of rules or instructions (if you were a traffic cop)
to efficiently guide the people to exchange positions. What simple set of rules
could you use to direct the traffic?
Favorite formulations for Traffic Cop directions:
• 1. Jump in the same direction, if possible.
• 2. If not possible, move from the farthest spot out toward the center.
(This does not apply to the first move.)
Revised:
• 1. Jump in the same direction, if possible.
• 2. If not possible, move the one farthest from their goal.
Additional rule after discussion:
• 3. Pieces can only move forward.
• 1. Move every piece that you can on one side without moving two of the same
color together until you get to the final state.
• 2. Alternate.
