computer exploration is teacher guided. And that can only be done with the
correct tools.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that children under the age
of eight be exposed to no more than two hours of screen time a day. That
includes all screen time, including computer use, video games, and television
viewing. To use computers daily in the early elementary classroom is limiting
to the child's social interaction and, I feel, unnecessary to the educational
process.
If technology is to be used it should be used sparingly and only if teacher
guided. If the tools are there for a teacher to use a large screen in order to
guide the activities or lesson then the amount of time utilized is under the
teacher's discretion. Also the focus of the lesson can be better maintained.
