Subject:   Math Rendering Specification

I am been looking without success for a specification or set of guidelines for
the layout of math equations on screen.  For example, how much space between
operands and operators, where is superscript character placed relative to the
base character, how large should the superscript character be, etc, etc.

If anybody knows of any resources, it would be much appreciated.
