regarding good educational software design:  one factor that distinguishes
"approachable" new software from "scary" new software is the simplicity of
*student instructions*.....

I find it to be a waste of good teaching time for students to have to step
through 30 "now click here"-type points in order to get the software
working....

Obviously this is a UI design challenge for all types of software- but it seems
particularly important in educational software.
