| Description: |
In this lesson students will write and evaluate expressions to calculate how much it would cost to build each specialty pizza topping-by-topping. The next task will be to calculate the savings two ways—in dollars and as a percent—to determine whether specialty pizzas are really worth it. Is it smart to always “go big?” Students will
- write and evaluate an algebraic expression to represent the cost of pizza as a function of the number of toppings
- relate a linear expression to a table of values and to a graph
- split a food bill
- calculate % savings, and compare deals by considering both absolute ($) and relative (%) savings
- calculate the cost per unit to determine the best buy
- determine when a special offer will save money and model those findings
algebraically and graphically
