| Description: | An interactive applet and associated web page that show the definition and properties of the focus points (foci) of an ellipse. The applet has an ellipse whose major and minor axes can be dragged. The applet shows the location of the foci, which are always on the major axis, and shows how they move with variation of the axis lengths. The web page also has a formula for calculating the location of the foci. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. After use in the classroom, student can access it again from any web browser at home or in the library with no login required. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference Interactive Geometry textbook project at http://www.mathopenref.com. |
