| Description: |
This activity builds on the previous activity, One Type of Integral, by suggesting two more efficient ways of estimating the area under a curve (definite integral) than counting squares: adding the areas of rectangular and trapezoidal columns. Students use specially designed Sketchpad custom tools to build these columns, then compare these two approximation methods and what happens as column width decreases and the number of columns increases. This activity is part of a series of Sketchpad activities introducing the main topics of calculus. |
