| Description: | Students often experience difficulty with the concepts of variance and standard deviation. This tool presents these concepts both visually and interactively. It provides an example using a given five number set first to find the mean which is displayed on a number line along with the original range of values. Then it calculates, step-by-step, the variance of the data and finally the standard deviation. The original data values are displayed along with both the mean and the standard deviation. Students are able to manipulate the original data set in any way they choose: by adding, removing or replacing data values. | ||
