The Civil War was a low point in the history of the United States. Never before or since has any war set brother against brother in such violent battles.

The Battle of Gettysburg is considered to be one of the bloodiest battles of all times. During this battle the 26th North Carolina Regiment lost approximately 85% of its men for a death count that totaled 708. How many soldiers of the 26th North Carolina Regiment survived this battle.
