The painter needs: 16 gallons of yellow paint, and
                     4 gallons of blue paint.

Name: Chris Hanusa
Grade: 12
School: Taylor Allderdice High School

Let's ASSUME 4 parts yellow + 1 part blue -> 5
parts green.

We don't know for sure that this is true. It is a
possibility
that the blue and yellow paint react and make less.

If 4+1->5, and we need 20 gallons green, we need
for the following
to be true:
   16+4->20, so the painter needs
   16 gallons of yellow paint and
    4 gallons of blue paint.

If 4 pts + 1 pt -> 4 pts. green for some strange
reason,
we need 20 gallons yellow and 4 gallons blue.

In general, if 4 pts + 1 pt -> x pts green,
then you need (20/x)*4 gallons of yellow,
and            (20/x)  gallons of blue.

Yellow :  4     8      12      16
Blue:       1     2      3        4
Green      5     10    15      20   (Gallons)

If you have 4 parts yellow for 1 part blue you just
add

4  +  4 =  8  +  4  =  12  +   4  =  16
----------     ----------      -------------     ----
 1  +  1     2  +  1      3   +   1      4    STOP

When you add 4 + 1 (4/1) you get 5, when you add 8
+ 2 (8/2)
you get 10, 12  +  3 (12/3) you get 15, and when you
add
16  + 4(16/4) you get 20.  The painter needed 20
gallons, so you need 16 gallons of yellow and 4
gallons of blue to get 20
gallons of Fern Green.
