On April 4, 2001,
Boston College released the Benchmarking results of the
Third International Mathematics and Science Study-Repeat
(TIMSS-R Benchmarking, also known as TIMSS 1999
Benchmarking).
Twenty-seven states,
districts, and consortia of districts participated in the
Benchmarking Study, which now provides them with the data
needed to evaluate their mathematics and science programs in
comparison to 37 nations and the United
States.
The TIMSS-R
Benchmarking results provide state and local policymakers
with rich information on student performance, instructional
practices, teacher preparation, students' classroom
experiences, and school policies. Moreover, these
Benchmarking results provide opportunities for educators,
parents, policymakers and the public to further reflect on
mathematics and science education in the United
States.
Online at the TIMSS-R
Benchmarking Study page, at http://www.rbs.org/mathsci/timss/benchmarking/index.shtml,
users will be able to access the Benchmarking reports,
highlights of the results, and a set of Frequently Asked
Questions.
That page also
provides users with access to information from and about
each of the participating states, districts and consortia.
Responses to the Benchmarking findings coming from the
education community as well as media coverage of the results
are also readily accessible.
The TIMSS-R
Benchmarking page is one section within a larger TIMSS
Resource Center, online at http://www.rbs.org/mathsci/timss/index.shtml
