Departmental Change: Working with Other DisciplinesHow does a department make a constructive response to an initiative for change that arises from another discipline, a major client of its highest enrollment service course? This paper describes the evolution of a two year process at Oakland University from the creation of a task force by its School of Business Administration, through the processing of its recommendations by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, to the implementation of the resulting changes in the one year business calculus sequence. The emphasis will be on those aspects of the process which contributed to effective collaboration between the two disciplines and are likely to be applicable at other institutions. |
