Orlando Meetings: Presentation Summary

Back to Orlando: Calculus Reform

This is the summary of a presentation given at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 10-13, 1996, Orlando, Florida.

A history of one calculus reform project

It's been nearly seven years before the first sections of Calculus & Mathematica were offered at the University of Illinois, then at Ohio State University. For all of us who have had a part in it, including Jerry Uhl, Horacio Porta, and many, many others, it's been one heck of a ride. Trying to recount highlights of this trip will let me share my own excitement about what has happened, is happening, and will happen. I'll try to focus my (naturally moderate) comments on issues of Content, Course Structure, Pedagogy, and cyber-math.

William J. Davis, Ohio State University, Columbus
