Orlando Meetings: Presentation Summary

Back to Orlando: Linear Algebra

This is the summary of a presentation given at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 10-13, 1996, Orlando, Florida.

Matrix-vector products geometrically:
A versatile teaching tool

The fundamental notion of a matrix-vector product is explored geometrically in the plane using an interactive GUI based MATLAB m-file. The objective is to lay a foundation that A*x defines a function that plays an important role. All action takes place on the graphics screen and provides opportunities for instruction in a variety of topics including linear combinations, direction & length of vectors, null spaces, and eigen notions.
