Orlando Meetings: Presentation Summary

Back to Orlando: Linear Algebra

This is the summary of a presentation given at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 10-13, 1996, Orlando, Florida.

A national survey of linear algebra teaching

This talk will describe some interesting and perhaps unexpected changes in linear algebra instruction over the past five years, as revealed by a recent nationwide survey. The 1995 survey data will be compared with data from a similar survey in 1990, both conducted by the Linear Algebra Curriculum Study Group. (The earlier survey generated replies from over 900 schools.) Topics to be discussed include content changes in course material, effects of calculus reform on linear algebra teaching, and the use of technology.
