Attend to Precision

Description: Cardone invites other teachers to edit her online collection of tricks to avoid, vocabulary to clarify, notation to use, and other opportunities to teach with greater precision.
 
Math Coaching
Date: Ongoing
Location: Maple Heights High School
Coach: Fred Dillon
Description: While math coaching for the high school, Dillon has shared PCMI's reflection on practice activities, and further used a PCMI summary of the Mathematical Practices with the teachers — including Tina Cardone's "cool MP Posters."
 
Great Tasks, Discourse and Standards

Location: locations in Montana; and Denver
Presenter: Richard Seitz
Description: Seitz has presented and discussed discourse, Great Tasks, and other ideas from C-TaP.
 
Math Coach Presentations

Presenter: Gail Englert
Description: Englert has presented several hour-long, and two all-day, workshops to teachers using many of the ideas she explored at PCMI, including "My Favorite No."
 
Cincinnati Math Teacher's Circle

Description: Phelps helped to establish a math teacher's circle.
 
Professional Learning Team (PLT)

Description: Sell introduces PCMI topics to other members of Math for America (MFA).
 
IberoCabrí
Date: August 6-8, 2012
Location: Lima, Perú
Presenter: Troy Jones
Description: Jones presented (in Spanish) "Una investigación de los puntos de concurrencia en un triángulo y sus puntos equivalentes en un tetraedro" to mathematics educators from various countries in Central and South America.
 
Equity in the Math Classroom, PLT
Date: Fall, 2012
Location: Math for America, NYC
Facilitator: Carol Kinney
Description: In monthly meetings with other Math for America (MfA) teachers about considering equity issues when teaching, ideas and discussions ranged from parent inclusion, to grants for more resources, to lessons targeted to students.
 
Top Ten Strategies for Retention

Presenter: Donna Young
Description: In this hour-long session at the annual conference of the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM), Young led discussion of ten strategies for helping students to remember concepts learned.
 
Outstanding High School Mathematics Teacher Award

Awardee: Donna Young
Description: The Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) recognized Young as the state's Outstanding High School Mathematics Teacher at its annual conference.
 
Motivating Students through Assessment

Description: At the annual MEA-MFT Educator's Conference, Johnson delivered a presentation about his mastery-based method for grading that empowers students, teaches responsibility, and places the focus back on learning.

Description: Van Dunk and Song presented how to incorporate the eight Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Mathematical Practices into a unit on logarithms.
 
Teaching and Assessing Functions
Date: April 9, 2013
Location: Charleston, IL
Presenter: Craig Russell
Description: At the Eastern Illinois University Math Teacher's Conference, Russell delivered an hour-long presentation on the Functions standards in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Drawing on both his PCMI working group and pedagogy sessions, he discussed emphasis on mathematical practice, and how PARCC assessments are projected to work.
 
Speaking at Gifted Endorsement Classes
Date: April 17, 2013
Location: Pinellas County, FL
Presenter: Jennifer Outzs
Description: Outzs will give a brief synopsis of PCMI 2012 and a preview of PCMI 2013 to a group of gifted teachers taking classes to get their gifted endorsement in Florida.
