Number Theory and Algebra Summary
Tuesday, July 2, 2002
We began our time together by joining the graduate group on a lecture about expander graphs. It became quickly apparent that the material was not suitable for us (missing background material) so we headed off to the computer lab to fill in our personal information for the web.
We then continued with our development of routines to find "nice" questions. Today's topic was the production of systems of equations that would have integer or single decimal answers. We first looked at a strictly algebraic manipulation process and then looked at it by using matrices, both manipulation by hand and by TI83. Lastly, we discussed progress throughout the entire Institute in order to make certain our needs and expectations are being met.
