Luis Hernández

 

ICME-10 DENMARK 2004

Luis Hernandez, a participant of the International Seminar, joined the Summer 2004 High School Teacher Program at the Park City Mathematics Institute (PCMI) for three weeks. Besides participating in the program, Luis made a presentation to the rest of the participants on his native Ecuador. Using a prepared PowerPoint (view link below) he highlighted some features of his country so that participants had background knowledge of the geography, economics, history, and culture of Ecuador. He also discussed the unique challenges and rewards of being a teacher as well as his own work as a supervisor in the schools and in teacher education.

Prior to his participation in Summer 2004 PCMI he attended the 10th International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-10) in Copenhagen, Denmark. New developments and trends in mathematics education at pre-school and primary levels was the topic of the study group that Luis participated in at ICME. The International Seminar program that has met in Park City for the last three summers convened this year as part of ICME. While in Copenhagen, Luis took part in the discussion group, "Experience from the IAS/PCMI International Seminars."
