Reasoning from Data and Chance Summary

Monday - Friday, June 28 - July 2, 2010

The data working group began the week with an introduction to collecting data and making sense of it. The question asked was, do people really remember better what they see than what they hear? This introductory activity was followed by an introduction to using Fathom Dynamic Data™ software. We ended the week by further investigating teaching mathematics using Fathom.

Members of the Data group are exploring the following topics in preparation for their projects: teaching mathematics with Fathom, addressing variability, using graphs to answer questions, defining terms, specifying assumptions, and making predictions. Next week the fun continues.
