The Math Forum's Problem Solving Process

This course aligns well with the Math Forum's Problems of the Week but could also be used to develop techniques to use with problem solving prompts in general. Participants are not required to have a Problem of the Week (PoW) Membership, although at the end of the course, they may find value in considering that as a logical next step as a resource for their students.

This moderated course will be led by Suzanne Alejandre, Director of Professional Development. It will take place online using Epsilen, as part of the NY Times Knowledge Network. The only technical requirements are a web browser and Internet access.

Who: Teachers, math coaches, and curriculum developers who are interested in learning about our problem solving process. This course aligns well with the Math Forum's Problems of the Week but could also be used to develop techniques to use with problem solving prompts in general.

When:

January 14 - February 24, 2010
Registration closes at 5 pm EDT on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Participants should expect to spend 3-5 hrs per week on the course.

Credit: All individuals who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate indicating that they have completed 15 hours of professional development. This is equivalent to 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
