These financial literacy word problems are aligned to both sets of national financial literacy standards as well as the content and mathematical practices standards of the CCSSM. These problems are from the Math Forum's Problems of the Week service, edited by Valerie Klein, Ph.D. (Math Forum Staff) working with Jim Charkins, Ph.D. (Executive Director, California Council on Economic Education) to closely align to the financial literacy standards from Jump$tart [pdf] and the Council for Economic Education [pdf]. The California Department of Education has included reference to these problems in Appendix B: Financial Literacy and Mathematics Education in the current Draft Mathematics Framework currently open for public comment and expected to be finalized November, 2013.
