    Carefully Cutting Cloth - Jan. 16-20, 1995

Mick and Keith were hanging out before school. Keith pulled a piece of paper out of his backpack. "Check this out. I read this on geometry.puzzles over the weekend."

    The paper read:

    Hello,

I need to solve the following problem. I've got a piece of cloth 116 inches by 45 inches. I want to cut off rectangular pieces and reattach them such that

    1. The resulting piece of cloth contains a circle of as large a diameter as possible, and
    2. I have to cut and re-sew as few pieces as possible.
Is there an easy way to solve this problem?

"Think we can help this guy get some satisfaction?" asked Keith?

"Just start me up!" said Mick.
